My fiancee, 1yo son and I were in Ottawa for 2 weeks for Christmas, only
to come back and find our car stolen and apartment broken into. Gone was the
new Dell Computer we just bought and our Pioneer Home Theatre set. We got
the car back, but the other stuff is never likely to show up.

Seeing as we had bought a new computer, we sold our old one for
next-to-nothing. Now, nothing is all we have. We need a computer because we
moved here to Edmonton in June of this year and we have no family here. It
is our only cost effective means of keeping in touch with our families. MSN
Messenger and a webcam have been our link back home and to the only people
we know.

I hate to ask, but I have no other option right now.

If you have any parts or a computer you are not using and dont mind
parting with, please let us know. It would be very much appreciated and we
would be in your debt.

Main things we are looking for:
==============================
Monitor - any size

Tower /w power supply

main board & cpu
(Onboard Vid, NIC and/or Sound is fine.
Saves trying to find them separate
unless ya have one of them to spare)

Keyboard/mouse - nothing fancy needed

Hard Disk / CD-Rom (again, nothing fancy)
(wouldnt mind a writer but will take anything and be happy with it)

As I said, I dont expect much, but any help we can get would be a godsend.
Thank you in advance for even taking the time to read this

First off:
You are quite rude!!
People like you are the reason alot of people dont post to newsgroups
anymore.
Dont you have anything better to do then to bother and/or look for reasons
to put people down??
It's bad enough that my things are gone that I dont need someone like you
trying to make me feel and/or look worse. Would you like to know why I was
up at 3:49am too??? .. Maybe because I have a hard time sleeping in an place
that I know has been violated by thieves.
Secondly:
I am watching a neighbor's apartment for them while they are in Calgary and
they told me it was ok to use thiers seeing as I am watching thier cat. Is
there a problem with that?? ... Some of us (those that arent rude) "DO" have
friends you know

Think for a minute ......
Why would Dell/Gateway and other companies sell computer's on thier website
to first time buyers??? ... How would they get online to buy them if they
didnt have a computer to start with?? .... Use your head, THEY MAY NOT OWN
ONE BUT THEY HAVE ACCESS TO ONE!!!!

Sorry to everyone else in the newsgroups who reads this but I just got 2
e-mails basically saying the same thing. I guess that I should not have
bothered to ask for the help in the first place.

I know you are probably a little stressed out but you have to learn to
relax...
specially on here. This people are always on the look out for scammers
so they can tear them down. Don't take to heart cause it's just their way.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and offer to you some computer parts
I have kicking around which I hope will help you out.
I have a keyboard, 12x cdrom, mouse and windows95 with coa.
I have a dot matrix printer if you need as well.
I look and see if I have anything else to give you but that's just what I
remember I have.
Hopefully you can built one and then when you don't need it anymore
you can pass it on to someone else who is in need.
You can take all or one or pass.
You can email me.

Good Luck and Happy New Year.

Pardon? Are you suggesting your new Dell was the first computer that you guys
have ever bought?
Certainly, that's not true for Rob. I've already pointed that out.

Anyone who googles ***@hotmail.com will easily see that.

You are absolutely right of course. I'm not intending to harass Lynn & Rob.

<sarcastic moment>

BTW can you help me out? I just got my VISA bill in and holy crap, I spent
too much on Christmas. I can't afford to pay that amount and I can't return
gifts that I already gave to others. Could you send me some spare cash? This
bill is huge, but its not as bad as last years Christmas tab or the year
before that. Any amount you can spare would be great!

RTFP, she wasnt asking for cash. parts for pc's i am asuming she is looking
for anything anyone is willing to hand out. so if you have something and are
feeling generous. fine hand away. if you dont think she is deserving of it.
fine. just dont post anything if you have no intentions of helping out.

No ... not our first computer ... i was making a point ... he was asking how
i managed to get online and I was comparing it to how a first time buyer (no
computer yet) somehow manages to go online and buy his. Basically saying
that having or not having a computer doesnt mean a person will be online
sometimes or not

Alternative answer:

First time computer buyers would contact the vendor by the toll-free number
that appears in the newspaper ad or flyer that they have in their hands.

Please help me understand....

1. You can afford a new Dell
2. You can afford a new home theatre setup
3. You dumped your old computer for "next-to-nothing" as you say above
4. Your old computer was a "P-IV 1.5Ghz - Brand New Compaq with WinXP " that
you offered for sale @ $1100 before leaving Ottawa:
( as we all know a P4 1.5G is a useless piece of junk that HAD to be
replaced)
See http://makeashorterlink.com/?O12552AF6

5 . After buying all those goodies you neglected to find the $100 - $175.00 in
your budget to purchase some home insurance that would have covered you in
your loss.

Help me understand that you actually do make smart decisions in your life.

Correction - You offered your Compaq P4 1.5GHz system for sale in April of
2002 - that would be the computer Rob owned after offering for sale the crappy
Cicero P4 1.4GHz in December of 2001. (see
http://makeashorterlink.com/?L26813AF6 )

My my. You guys seem to have an urge to buy a new computer every year...

I'm still having difficulty rationalizing why you can't afford insurance or
buying a 'crappy' PIII as a used system.

1 - Saved up for the dell - our x-mas gift to each other
2 - Home Theatre was from Easy Home - ie. Rent-to-own
3 - We sold the computer in a bit of a rush to get airfare to go see our

Why be alone in Edmonton?? Only been here 6 months. We barely know anyone
here.
Christmas "IS" a family thing, isnt it??

As for car insurance, we have basic coverage .. doesnt cover theft
I am 21 and the coverage we have costs me $2000 a year

No-one is forcing you. I am not asking someone to hand me a 2.5Ghz system
Just any old parts they dont use or want. I will make the system myself.
Right now, i dont care if it's an old 200mmx board or whatever.
I just want to be able to talk to my family and for my mother to know my
son.
Why do you have a problem with that????
Post by Randa
1. You can afford a new Dell
2. You can afford a new home theatre setup
3. You dumped your old computer for "next-to-nothing" as you say above
4. Your old computer was a "P-IV 1.5Ghz - Brand New Compaq with WinXP " that
( as we all know a P4 1.5G is a useless piece of junk that HAD to be
replaced)
See http://makeashorterlink.com/?O12552AF6
5 . After buying all those goodies you neglected to find the $100 - $175.00 in
your budget to purchase some home insurance that would have covered you in
your loss.
Help me understand that you actually do make smart decisions in your life.

Auto insurance generally covers some car contents. And tenants
insurance covers the rest.

Have you made a claim, including for your PC?

People on this group are naturally suspicious and rightfully so. The
world is full of scammers who love to prey on the naive.

Show me a copy of the police report and I'll see what I have to give
you.

I just *HAD* to post in this topic, so here's what I've got to say. Unless
any of you personally know the original poster, then why make personal
attacks? I am a firm believer that in order to judge somebody else, you must
first get to know them. Sure, the world *IS* full of scammers, but a scam
artist wouldn't come to a newsgroup and beg for ancient computer parts. I'm
almost 100% sure that somebody out there has an old IBM P166 with Win98 on
it and a shitty 15 inch monitor. It's not like they're asking EVERYONE on
the newsgroup to donate $10 ea until she can afford a NEW computers. Only
camwhores do that. Hey, there's an idea for the original poster, she could
sell nude photo's of herself to lonely losers like all of you who try to
make her feel bad... As if she hasn't been through enough.

Hey, I've got a 15" monitor here, it's got a little burn-in, but it works
just fine, if you haven't found anyone to offer you a monitor yet, you can
have this one.

Lynn;

How did you pay for the new computer? If you used a 'premium credit card'
and bought it less than 90 days before the loss, you are possibly covered
under their 'any perils' warranty.

Check the card issuer and file a claim, if applicable.
